FLOATING FROM PAST TO FUTURE: Henry David Thoreau and his boat, the Musketaquid Walden Pond–Main Beach, Monday, October 13, 2014 12:00-2:00 p.m.

rowboat colorizedHenry and John Thoreau Jr. built a boat, the Musketaquid, in which they drifted and rowed from Concord Massachusetts, to Concord New Hampshire, and back. Later, while living at Walden Pond, Henry wrote A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, an account of that trip that combined currents of history, literature, and philosophy. Meet Henry, portrayed by historian Richard Smith, and his sister as they paddle the Musketaquid to the main beach at Walden Pond where Henry will talk about that trip.

Thanks to the Concord Museum http://www.concordmuseum.org  for the loan of the reproduction of the Musketaquid. Sponsored by the Friends of Walden Pond, an activity of the Thoreau Society, and Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House.
